Get to know a little bit about our Ministers, Church Leadership Team and ministry leaders.
RICHARD BURFOOT is our Minister for Pastoral Care (Team Leader) and came to West Cliff Baptist Church in June 2008. He married Faith in 1985 and they have three children: Georgina, Hannah and Ryan. Richard has responsibility for pastoral care and discipleship and is a passionate and gifted worship leader. Above all, he has a real heart to see people embrace their true identity and freedom as God's precious children. When he's not working, Richard enjoys reading, walking the family Whippet, loves family holidays in France and can sometimes be seen speeding across Bournemouth Bay on a jet ski!
CHRIS BROCKWAY is our Minister for Mission/Evangelism and came to West Cliff Baptist Church in September 2003 having graduated from Moorlands Bible College. He married Meg in August 2003 and they have two children: Toby and Oscar. Chris has responsibility for training, affirming and equipping the church for local mission, as well as various other leadership responsibilities. Chris’ two great passions in ministry are seeing people come into a living relationship with God through Christ and enabling churches to engage effectively with their local communities. He is a Trustee for Faithworks Wessex which is a Christian organisation enabling organisations and individuals to demonstrate faith in practical ways. When he’s not working, Chris loves to spend time with his family, sharing meals with friends and enjoys running.
VAL DOWNHAM first came to West Cliff with her husband Mac when they relocated to Bournemouth in 1993. Between them they have 4 children and 10 grandchildren, none of whom live locally. Val's service at West Cliff began in November 2006, helping with cleaning (which is ongoing!) and then volunteering to maintain the files of large print sheets for services. Val became involved in the kitchen with our Friday Breakfast outreach to the homeless and marginalised, which she feels is a very practical way of serving the Lord's needy people.Val's service on the Diaconate began in January 2008 and from there she joined the Sunday stewarding rota, took on responsibility for the weekly prayer sheet and joined in helping to lead our teenage Girls Group. Recently she have taken on the responsibilities of Church Administrator.
Val is a member of The Fitness League and enjoys both yoga for exercise and pilates. Her passion is country/coastal walking, which, regretfully she doesn't get as much time for as she would like. Having attended a church since childhood, Val didn't come to know the Lord as
her own personal Saviour until joining Kennet Valley Free Church in Reading in about 1985/6 where they were both nurtured to a personal faith by God's caring people.
"When Mac sadly died in October 2006, I knew the Lord had work for me to do when I was ready and each year He has faithfully led, guided, guarded, protected and provided, according to my needs. I serve a faithful God".

He has been a member of WCBC for 10 years and a deacon for 9 years. Peter has recently handed over the responsibilities of church Fabric Steward, which have occupied him for the past 10 years, and looks forward to another set of challenges in the near future.Being retired from his 'day job', Peter's daily activities have ranged from child-minding grandchildren to dealing with maintenance issues of the church premises. Peter feels the really important aspects of church life, includes the stimulation of worship on a Sunday, together with the exposition of God's Word; the thrill of seeing new believers discover a new life in Christ and the opportunities for sharing one's faith and experiences in the more intimate setting of a home Fellowship Group.
"I came to faith and was baptised in 1953, having been raised within a loving christian family in Folkestone, Kent. The experiences of two years National Service in the RAF provided a significant challenge and boost to my faith in God. Before our move to Bournemouth, we spent 34 years in Tunbridge Wells and were members of a Baptist church there (and I spent several years as the Fabric Steward!)".
